Motorized Orientation Stages and Accessories

Multiwire Laboratories, Ltd. provides accessories for the MWL110 Real-time Back-reflection Laue Camera system to quickly align single crystals in a radiation-proof enclosure.

The MWL701 Jack and Translation Stage has been designed for the vertical and horizontal positioning of crystal orientation devices and samples. The jack assembly consists of three rugged ball screw jacks and durable aluminum housing with a track of 2" width (50 mm). The stage and jack assembly will easily accommodate a weight load to 110 lbs (50 kg).

Precise positioning of samples is easily accomplished with the MWL 731 6-axis, joy stick controlled motor driver which is required to operate this stage. Horizontal range of travel = 4" (10 cm), vertical range of travel = 2.7" (6.7 cm).

The MWL703 Automated Orientation Base for single crystal orientation has been designed to allow remote control of the two axes of a barrel holder with two DC motor driven allen wrenches in the power pod. The motors are torque limited to eliminate damage. The automated barrel holder base is mounted on a standard x-ray track. A barrel holder may be readily mounted or removed from the power pod. The spring loaded and motorized allen wrenches engage the barrel holder automatically when the barrel holder is inserted into the power pod. The barrel holder can accommodate crystals to a maximum weight of 2.2 lbs (1 kg) and can tilt the crystal plus or minus 7 degrees on both orthogonal axes. This unit is designed to operate with the MWL731 automated motor driver which can produce a 0.04 degree step size with adjustable speed of 0.04 to 0.8 degree/second. The power pod can be manually rotated through 360 degree about the barrel holder axis. A manually adjustable allen key locks the front plate of the barrel holder when orientation has been completed on a crystal. This is the ideal way to mount a crystal in preparation for a final orientation cut with a diamond-tipped saw blade.

The MWL705 Three-axis Rotation Goniometer provides remote alignment of crystal samples within a radiation enclosure. This goniometer is ideal for sample manipulation over large angular ranges. The MWL705 is operated through the 6-axis MWL731 motor driver.

The MWL731 6-Axis Motor Driver with joy-stick control has 6-axis capability to drive 12 or 28 VDC motors at up to 2 amperes per motor. A joy-stick controls the motors a pair at a time. The rotary switch allows selection of one of three of the pairs. The motor speed is varied by changing the rate at which full voltage pulses are delivered to the DC motor. This ensures full motor torque even at low motor speeds. Light emitting diodes on the joy-stick pod indicate the return motor current.

Joy Stick Control allows simple control of pairs of motorized axes.

Leaded Beam Stop sits behind sample to protect operator from x-rays if the sample is removed.
